The Power of the Cloud - it's Closer than You Think.

It seems that you cannot browse the tech news today without seeing an article (or two, or three or six) about the cloud. What is the cloud and why is it so prevalent today? It’s commonly assumed that this is a new technology, however cloud backup or ‘the cloud’ has existed virtually as long as the internet itself. The blaze of media focus on the cloud these past few years was sparked by its growing implementations. With the rise of different technologies that can connect to the internet (like smart phones and tablets) and use many of the same programs that computers can, cloud storage has become more useful if not even essential.

Cloud storage is simply the process of using the internet to store data to a server that is not physically in your office, your home or even your corporate headquarters, but in a professionally managed data center.

The benefits of cloud backup are many. For instance, when your data is stored at a data center, your information is stored in a redundant fashion, meaning it's stored on more than one server. This is done to ensure your files are safe even if one server goes down. Your files are also accessible from any device that is connected to the internet.

Ready to put the power of the cloud to work for you?

If you have any questions about cloud storage, or how it can benefit your business, feel free to contact us. eNet Systems can work with your business or organization to implement and maintain an effective cloud backup approach to safeguard your important data. Yahoo still lags behind Google in email encryption
Despite a pledge made last October to fully encrypt all email communication, something Google has been offering for four years, Yahoo's implementation still appears inconsistent. "Anytime you use Yahoo Mail - whether it’s on the web, mobile web, mobile apps, or via IMAP, POP or SMTP - it is 100% encrypted by default and protected with 2,048 bit certificates," said Jeff Bonforte, senior vice-president of communication products at Yahoo, in a blog post. However, Ivan Ristic, director of application security research at security firm Qualys has found that many of the Yahoo email servers either use weak ciphers or do not protect against known hacking attacks, something that Google and even Facebook and Twitter now do.

Audi shows off Android-based tablet with cool powers
Every now and then, we come across a segment so cool or original we just have to share. It's not exactly a tool that can help you in your business or on the job, but it might make getting there or your time at home more fun. At CES this year, Audi showed off an Android-based tablet that gives passengers control of the car's infotainment functions. This gives 'calling shotgun' or even 'backseat driving' a whole new meaning.

With the tablet, passengers can control the car's navigation audio, telephone or other connected functions such as music. They can also browse destinations, and drag the desired one to the map where it will be programmed in for route guidance and show up in the car's main navigation display area.

Unbreakable encryption is here
For anyway who thought that unbreakable, un-hackable encryption was a thing of the future, the future is here. An Ohio based R&D contractor has installed the first quantum key distribution (QKD) protected network in the US - with the help of a Geneva-based quantum technology company.
